Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs), led by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, protested in the Parliament House complex on Tuesday. They demanded accountability over the alleged theft of donations at the famous Ram temple in Ayodhya and condemned the police’s treatment of student protesters.
The MPs gathered in front of the Makar Dwar of Parliament, brandishing placards with messages like ‘chhanda chor, gaddi chor’ and ‘Amit Shah jawaab do’. These demonstrations highlighted their discontent with the government’s handling of significant issues.
During the protest, the MPs placed donation boxes at the site to symbolize the alleged theft at the Ram temple. They surrounded these boxes, chanting slogans that criticized the government’s actions, with some MPs even placing cash inside the boxes to signify the donations made and the alleged misappropriation that followed.
Prominent figures in the protest included Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav from the Samajwadi Party (SP), Sagarika Ghose from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), and RJD members Sanjay Yadav and Manoj Jha, in addition to RSP’s NK Premchandran.
Adorned with a large banner that read ‘Why Amit Shah absent from Parliament’, the protesting MPs directed their slogans against the Home Minister, amplifying their message of accountability.
The coalition of opposition parties known as INDIA has chosen to challenge the government on multiple fronts. They focus not only on the alleged “chhada chori”, which means theft of donations, but also express serious concerns regarding the “brutal force” used against student demonstrators during their protests last week.
In a strategic move, the floor leaders of the INDIA bloc congregated in the office of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, located within the Parliament complex. They reaffirmed their commitment to confront the government over the dual issues of donation theft and police actions against students.
With parliament proceedings taking place amidst these rising tensions, the opposition aims to highlight accountability and transparency regarding the Ram temple’s funding. The allegations have raised questions in the minds of the public about the management of donations intended for the temple, a significant religious site for many Hindus.
