Two-time Olympic shuttler PV Sindhu recently shared her insights on the deep, brotherly bond she shares with cricket superstar Virat Kohli. In a candid conversation, she reflected on how his invaluable advice during her career’s low phases helped her regain her confidence. As she competes in the BWF World Championships, Sindhu’s remarks have resonated with fans and sports enthusiasts alike.
Speaking during the latest episode of the RCB Podcast, Sindhu discussed her relationship with Kohli, noting that their bond extends beyond mere friendship. The episode teaser was shared on the official handle of the two-time IPL champions, and her heartfelt words about Kohli captured the essence of their connection.
During the podcast, Sindhu recounted a critical moment in her career when Kohli offered her life-changing advice. She recalled struggling with her game and feeling disheartened. Kohli, in his characteristic encouraging manner, told her, “Just show up for the matches and training; just play your game.”
“He is like my brother,” Sindhu expressed. “When I met him at my lowest, I told him I felt nothing was happening. He said to just show up and it’s okay. Just go out there and play.” These encouraging words from Kohli allowed Sindhu to change her mindset significantly.
“He asked me to show up anywhere and for anything and just play my game. What would happen? You are not going to lose anything. You know what you are, how you have trained, and you need to show the world who you are,” she added. Sindhu believes that this conversation altered her perspective on competition and her approach to the game.
The badminton star maintains her connection with Kohli and often updates him on her victories. “Whenever I win, I share my happiness with him, saying that I have won this or that. I recently met him, and it’s always great to connect with someone who has achieved so much,” she shared.
Sindhu admires Kohli not only for his sporting achievements but also for the way he approaches challenges. She concluded, “It’s inspiring to see how he shows up, how he plays, and what he is. Hats off to him for everything he has done.”
In her current competition at the BWF World Championships taking place in New Delhi, Sindhu exhibited her power on the court. She dominated her first-round match against Ireland’s Sophia Noble, securing victory with a convincing score of 21-7, 21-11 in the women’s singles Round of 64.
