Under the directions of District Magistrate Kishtwar, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Shavan (JKAS), an awareness campaign was held at the BDO office in Drabshalla to inform the public about three new criminal laws.
The program was organized by BDO Drabshalla to educate the public about the three new criminal laws that came into effect on July 1, 2024.
These laws are Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) – replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – replacing the Indian Evidence Act.
Tehsildar Drabshalla Irshad Ahmed Sheikh,JKAS presided over the function as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour were Sh. Ajay Singh, JKAS, BDO Drabshalla, and Miss Shazia Banoo, Prosecuting Officer Thatri, who also served as the resource person for the occasion.
A large number of people from the adjoining areas and Panchayats participated in the awareness campaign.
Miss Shazia Banoo, PO Thatri, delivered a detailed lecture on all three new criminal laws and educated the participants about the various changes and new provisions in these laws.
She emphasized that these laws aim to provide speedy justice to victims and impose stringent punishments on offenders.
Additionally, Tehsildar Drabshalla and BDO Drabshalla briefed the participants about the outcomes and implications of the three new criminal laws and urged them to be fully aware of their rights, as well as the punishments and penalties under these laws.
They also highlighted that the new laws prioritize justice over mere punishment and are designed to ensure quick justice and improve accessibility.
