I stand firmly with Omar Abdullah’s statement that free electricity is possible only with the installation of smart meters. These devices ensure accurate billing, prevent misuse, and reduce the massive AT&C losses that plague Jammu and Kashmir’s power sector. Without smart meters, providing free electricity would burden the exchequer, risking financial instability and inefficiency.

If smart meters are not installed, and 200 units of free electricity are provided arbitrarily,,,, it would lead to widespread misuse and pilferage of electricity…..(The absence of proper monitoring would make it impossible to ensure equitable distribution, allowing some to exploit the system while others suffer.). Additionally, the resulting financial losses would reduce funds available for infrastructure upgrades and other essential services, compromising the long term development of the power sector….. Global and national examples like Delhi have shown that such measures are crucial for sustainability and welfare of people.
The opposition’s claims are impractical and lack vision, relying on short term populism rather than long term solutions…………..
Honble CM Omar Abdullah sb’s approach reflects responsible governance, balancing the aspirations of the people with the need for modernization and accountability.
The National Conference remains committed to equitable and sustainable policies that benefit every citizen while securing Jammu and Kashmir’s future.
