J&K POLICE ORGANISED CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME FOR THE STAFF OF WOMEN HELP DESK & SPECIAL CELL FOR WOMEN IN KISHTWAR DISTRICT.

In a significant step towards empowering the staff of the Special Cell for Women and Women Help Desks, the J&K Police organized a one-day capacity-building programme today at the Conference Hall, District Police Lines (DPL), Kishtwar on the directions of Sh. Shridhar Patil, IPS, DIG DKR Range, the event aimed to equip police personnel with enhanced skills and knowledge to effectively serve and support women in distress.
Senior Superintendent of Police, District Kishtwar, Sh. Abdul Qayoom, JKPS, highlighted the value of the event, urging the female staff of J&K Police to focus on providing justice to women by investigating cases diligently. He stressed the importance of a sensitive and informed approach to addressing issues faced by women.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Special Cells for Women, J&K—supported by the National Commission for Women, Government of India, and implemented by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. The training focused on key issues faced by women, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of the Special Cell for Women and Help Desks.
The programme was attended by the DySP, DAR Sh. Sajjad Khan, underscoring the district police leadership’s commitment to the initiative. Mr. Balwant Singh, Coordinator at TISS, Mumbai, led the sessions, adopting a participatory approach to engage the attendees. The training covered critical topics such as gender perspective building, understanding violence against women, addressing the needs of violated women, and providing an overview of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence (PWDV) Act, 2005, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The event saw active participation from 35 officers and officials of the women staff of J&K Police. Their engagement in discussions and training exercises was instrumental in addressing the challenges faced by women in distress and in developing effective strategies for support and justice. Their insights and commitment to their roles are expected to significantly enhance the functionality of the Special Cell for Women and Help Desks.
